In the first month of 2007 Mikhail will take part in 3 tournaments - Qatar ExxonMobile Open in Doha on Jan 1-7, Australian Open in Melbourne on Jan 15-29 and PBZ Zagreb Indoors in Zagreb on Jan 29 – Feb 4. That’s what told the agency “All sports” the player’s coach Boris Sobkin.

“In the beginning of the new season, taking into account that Misha has just recovered from the injury, we decided not to invent the bike again and repeat the last January’s schedule. We’ll take part in all three tournaments for sure – in Doha, Melbourne and Zagreb. After Doha we’ll fly to Australia where will be practicing the entire week not taking playing any matches. After AO we’ll go to Zagreb. Further plans for February, though not official yet, are Marselle, Rotterdam and Dubai” – Boris Sobkin said.

Last Friday in Barvikha (Moscow region) Boris Yeltsin met tennis players that are to play DC. The ex-president’s guests were Nikolay Davydenko, Marat Safin, Mikhail Youzhny, Dmitry tursunov and RussianTennis Federation President Shamil Tarpischev. “Mr Yeltsin regulary meets our players before important tournaments, it’s like our tradition, - said the team’s coach Sergei Leonyuk. - And since we’re having a DC match soon he couldn’t help inviting them”. This time the ex-president and his wife Naina invited the team for a dinner. Mr yeltsin had a long talk with the players, asked about their successes, problems, changes in their personal life. In the end of the meeting Marat Safin asked Mr Yeltsin to visit his matches more often: “When you’re not there, I lose. You’re my talisman bringing me luck".

Now Mikhail has rehabilitation after the injure at NII of clinical rehabilitation.

Here is the short interview about it.

- Misha, the Internet is full of rumours about your injury and your prospects. What can you say about what happened?
- I was injured almost a week ago – on Wednesday, and I got an accurate assessment only on Thursday. The thing is that the only doctor I trust is Evgeniy Blum. In St Petersburg my leg was put in plaster, but the diagnosis wasn’t clear. On Thursday we came to Evgeniy and he said the treatment would take 2-3 weeks. I can’t make any conclusions myself because it’s the first time I deal with such an injury, but I trust him complitely. There have been 6 classes and I can see obvious changes to the better. First I could walk with crutches only, then I could walk without crutches after classes and now I walk without them both in the mor ... Читать дальше »

In the first round of SPb Open Misha defeated Rainer Schuttler 7:6 6:4, and in doubles with Nedad Zemonjic defeated Cibulec and Zovko 6:3 6:4. But Mikhail got quite a serious injury. During his performance in the doubles with Nenad Zimonjic against the Wayne Arthurs/James Auckland pair, Mikhail got a sprain of his right foot at 6:3, 3:4. He also preferred to stop his performance in the singles tournament, thus Thomas Johansson reached the Semifinal without struggle. Youzhny`s participation in the Paris Masters Series tournament is questionable as well.
